Reasons Not To Have a Pet Chimp

Having a pet chimp sounds like a really fun thing. And for a small group of people, this type of animal can be the right fit for a pet. However, in most cases, having a pet chimp is simply not a good idea. There’s no denying the fact that when chimps are small, not only are they extremely cute, but they are very affectionate. The problem is that this stage does not last for long. As they quickly grow up, they become much harder to manage. Unlike a human child who can be physically controlled, chimps are much stronger than humans. This means that you can’t rely on physical force to control a pet chimp.

Even when chimps are young, most people can’t provide them with the constant attention and care that they need. As a chimp gets older, it needs plenty of space to be active. If it’s kept in a place that doesn’t offer much space, it won’t take long for it to become unhappy and more aggressive. Another thing that many people don’t realize about chimps is that owning one is a lifelong commitment. Since it’s common for these animals to live for more than 50 years, this isn’t a pet that you can change your mind about owning.

In addition to all of these issues with pet chimps, another problem is that owning this type of pet is simply not legal in many areas. As a result of all these factors, your best bet is probably to stick to enjoying seeing the chimps when you visit the zoo!

Finding Your Own Pet Chimp Legally

Although pet chimps are great to have when they are young, they are often a very difficult animal to deal with when they are older. Many people who buy a pet chimp enjoy it while it is still a baby but once they reach adolescence they are either dumped in an area or even killed. This is not the way that chimps are supposed to be treated as they are very similar to humans. Chimps are very difficult to obtain and may even be illegal in some areas. Some of the most famous people such as the now deceased Michael Jackson had a chimp at some point in time. There are many special needs that a chimp must have in their life to keep them healthy and thriving and when they become adults, there are many different things that must be provided to them to keep them happy.

If the chimps are left under little or no contact when they become adults they will be too aggressive to give to zoos and they may never be able to be anywhere with humans as well. It is important to introduce them to people who are willing to interact with the chimp and understand that a chimp’s smile usually is a bad thing because flaring of the teeth is a sign of discomfort and may lead to an escalation in bad temper. You will need to seek out a special breeder and have your pet chimp registered as well as have special treatments done for them. You will need to ensure that you get all of the vaccinations for your chimp that are available and never put them on a leash. If you are not able to be a fit parent for a chimp, then you may need to give the chimp for adoption by a zoo or other people who can care for the chimp.

Safety Tips For Owning A Pet Chimp

Pet chimps are amongst the best pets you can have. They are a human like companion that understands commands, can perform tricks, and knows how to express compassion and love. You can learn to communicate with chimp’s as well, removing a barrier that is often present between animals and humans.

Unfortunately having a pet chimp isn’t the easiest task. They require a great amount of care – more than that of a child usually. Chimpanzee’s are also hard headed and have a mind of their own. If they don’t like you, they will fight back in some way. When owning a chimp, it is important that you have proper living quarters for him or her. If you let it roam free then you increase your risk of injury. Even the most docile pet chimp can turn on you.

Also make sure that a veterinarian nearby can take care of it in the event that he becomes sick or injured. An angry chimp is not something you want in your home. Keeping them healthy and immunized is the best way to remove dangers associated with diseases and wounds. Remember that chimps like to play like chimps. Its not the same kind of play that a kitten or dog would want, but much rougher. You should always be prepared with proper clothing and safety equipment in the event that your pet chimp decides to bite you or scratch. While you can trim their nails, it isn’t usually recommended.

Overall, the best way to remain safe while owning a pet chimp is to have a climate controlled habitat just for him or her. You can monitor them, provide intellectual stimulation, and care for it the same – without risking getting hurt or it getting hurt in your home.

A Pet Chimp Attacked Its Owner’s Friend

[Facebook] [Twitter]

Approximately two months ago, a two hundred pound chimp was killed by police. The reason that police were forced to kill this primate is because it attacked its owner’s friend. Although you might think that animals like chimps are harmless when they are raised by humans, this incident definitely proved otherwise. The reason that this incident proved otherwise is because the attack was extremely violent, and the woman was very close to losing her life.

The woman who was attacked by this pet chimp was named Charla Nash. She is fifty-five years old, and because she had been friends with the woman for many years, she had interacted with this pet chimp on many occasions. However, on the day of the attack, none of that mattered or stopped the pet chimp from going after her. Although there are still a lot of missing details surrounding the attack, the owner of the pet chimp said she believed it was because Charla Nash had changed her hair, so the chimp did not recognize her. During the course of the attack (which lasted for a total of twelve minutes), Charla Nash lost her hands, nose, lips and eyelids. Because she suffered such a terrible attack, her family has decided to go after the owner of the pet chimp, who is named Sandra Herold, for fifty million dollars. While this may sound like an excessive amount of money, Nash’s injuries are going to attract huge medical bills, and Herold also has six pieces of property and her stake in a Stamford used car dealership.
